The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta gets more power, but it also gets better fuel economy

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta was introduced last month with a new front and rear design, more exterior colours, and a range of other improvements to its technology and design. The new Jetta is also more powerful with an improved turbocharged engine.

The new Jetta is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder like last year, but this engine now offers 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque as opposed to 147 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Torque therefore remains the same, but horsepower increases. In any case, the Jetta continues as the most powerful engine in its segment out of the gate.

That said, the Jetta has also gotten more fuel-efficient, which is quite a feat given the improved power. There are numerous ways the Jetta has gotten better in the fuel consumption department, including a higher compression ratio, an improved Miller Cycle, less friction in the engine, and more pressure.

Higher Compression Ratio

The higher compression ratio of 11.5 to 1 compared to 10 to 1 means that the engine extracts more power out of every drop of fuel. In other words, the engine needs less fuel for a given level of power.

Miller Cycle

The Miller Cycle has been improved in order to make the engine breathe better. Better airflow means better fuel economy.

Less Friction

The cylinders have a new coating which reduces friction in the cylinder. Friction forces the engine to work harder which reduces fuel economy. By making the cylinders smoother, the friction is reduced.

More Pressure

The turbocharger has been improved to increase pressure while there’s an additional 150 bars of injection pressure which reduces the temperature within the cylinders.

The Jetta is better in every way, and despite its added power it is also more efficient. Contact us today to learn more about the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta!
